It is well to use a membrane and a layer of masonry-a
single course of bricks, for instance-at the rear of the planter.
Wherever you place your planter, and however you plant it, we are
sure you will find it one of the most interesting projects of any you will
build in your garden.
DRESS UP YOUR DOORWAY
The front door, usually so nondescript in a
small house, can be featured if a plant box
is built beside it. Incorporate it with the steps,
using same materials for both -bricks,
blocks, stone, or combinations - for best
visual value. Note the "membrane". It's a
necessary feature with a wood house, a
good idea for a masonry one; it gives protection from moisture. Rough-plastering the
inside of box with cement conserves water,
helps preserve mosonry from weathering.
